Salary Range: 

Starting Annual Salary $32,011.20  

General Function: 

This is work in the operation of a Water Treatment Plant. Employees in this class have the responsibility for the operation of water treatment machinery, equipment and facilities.  Employees maintain various logs and work records. 

Essential Duties: 
  • Maintains a neat and clean work environment.
  • Collects water samples and performs chemical analysis and tests.
  • Assists in training new Operators.
  • Employee is subject to shift work, holiday duty, working weekends and call-back without notice.
  • Employee is subject to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Intermittent heavy physical activity is required.
  • Conform to the safety guidelines as set by the City of Del City, as well as State and Federal regulatory agencies.
  • Continually monitors well system, tower levels, ground storage level (at plant and in City), lift stations, plant output and water usage trends data via water resources computer system.
  • Determines from data and current weather conditions whether wells should be turned off or on to meet “anticipated” public water demand.
  • Maintain proper tower levels to ensure adequate line pressure in the distribution system.
  • Maintain plant security after hours, holidays and on weekends.
  • Completes reports and logs on the following: daily water usage, water filters reports, shift activity and plant status log (briefing for Plant Supervisor) and hourly ground storage and tower levels.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Dispatch (by radio or telephone) Water and Sewer Line Maintenance personnel as needed.
Minimal Acceptable Qualifications: 
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment relative to water treatment.
  • Knowledge of the processes involved in the treatment of water.
  • Knowledge of the hazards involved in plant operations and of the safety precautions to be taken.
  • Ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment and to detect defects.
  • Ability to read meter and charts accurately and to maintain operating log records accurately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees and to direct assigned assistants in routine work.
  • Ability to communicate information related to operations of equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions, both oral and written.
  • Skill in the English language in speaking, reading and writing.
  • Ability to obtain a Class “C” Oklahoma Water Operator Certification License.
  • Ability to obtain a Class “C” Oklahoma Water Lab certification.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Possession of a valid Oklahoma State Driver License and a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.                
Additional Desirable Qualifications: 
  • Graduation from high school or vocational school, or equivalent.
  • Experience in water utilities or other related field.
  • Oklahoma Class “A” Commercial Driver License with tanker endorsement.


Supervision Given and Received: 
  • Works under the direct supervision of the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor and the Assistant Water Treatment Plant Supervisor.
  • May supervise work of trainees and/or assigned assistants.
